Mezcal is deeply embedded in Mexican history, traditions, mythology, and spirituality. The first spirit to be distilled in the Americas, it was forced into underground production during colonial times, when Spaniards banned it in order to promote imported beverage sales. Ever since Mexican independence in the 1800s, it has thrived through the capable hands of small producers. Tres Papalote aims to preserve the tradition of mezcaleros with their lineup of artisanal mezcal.
Cheech Marin of Cheech & Chong fame serves as more than just the ambassador for Tres Papalote. Known for his extensive Chicano art collection, the bottle design features an image chosen by Marin. The image was taken from a glass sculpture in his collection that was crafted by expert Chicano glassworkers Elinar and Jamex De La Torre.
The cupreata agave grows in mountainous regions, meaning it is reachable either by foot or donkey. Once the mature 7-year-old plants are harvested, their hearts are extracted and roasted in a fire pit in the ground. The cooked agave is then ground with a tahona stone mill that is pulled by a donkey or horse. It's then time for open-air fermentation in wooden barrels before the liquid is distilled under the watchful eye of the Maestro Mezcalero.
Tres Papalote Wild Cupreata Mezcal is crafted with 100% wild cupreata agave from Guerrero, Mexico, using a family recipe that has been handed down through generations. Bottled at 92 proof, it's an intense and bold mezcal with prominent smoke and spice notes balanced by citrusy and fruity touches.
