The Macallan Edition No 5 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Speyside - Highlands, Scotland
The Macallan Edition No 5 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Speyside - Highlands, Scotland
Macallan Edition No.5 celebrates the natural color of their Single Malts.
Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the "Big 3" Single Malts in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their "Speyside" designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the "official" boundaries doesn’t mean whiskey-lovers have to pay any attention.
Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a very broad range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge global following.
The Macallan "Edition" series has been an occasional release of special Single Malt — each one focusing on a different aspect of the Single Malt we all love. As you might suppose, The Macallan Edition No.5 is the fifth in that series, and this time we are focusing on color.
To celebrate the all natural color of The Macallan Single Malts, they have partnered with the famous color company Pantone. And that’s why the outer box and label are a wild shade of purple, but it looks like fuchsia to us… but you probably don’t really care about the color of the box. What they are trying to emphasize is that they do not add artificial colorings to their Spirits, and everyone can applaud that.
It is a limited edition of The Macallan’s signature Single Malt, aged in American oak — resulting in a lovely shade of warm amber — and bottled at a more than wonderful 48.5% ABV.
