The bridge between tradition and innovation.

Everybody knows Glenlivet. It’s one of the biggest single malt producers in the entire world. Since 1824, when George Smith became the first distiller in Highlands to obtain a license for distillation, they’ve been the trailblazers of the malt-making business. Their Whiskies are officially Speyside, meaning that they are Highland malts produced along the river Spey. Their range includes a colorful rainbow of ages and cask combinations. One thing they don’t produce, though, is peated Whisky.

Until now that is. You’ve guessed it. The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish is smoky, yes sir. Nonetheless, they've gone about it a bit differently. Nadurra means “natural” in Gaelic. They’re trying to recreate the classic cask strength expressions in the traditional style of time long gone. This means two things. With this one Glenlivet went back to basics, but at the same time out of their comfort zone. It sounds like nonsense, doesn’t it? Just indulge us for a sec.

Of course, it draws its inspiration from historic Glenlivet malt-making traditions, but this is also the first smoky Glenlivet in over a hundred years! Rather than starting with peatier malt before fermentation, they are adding it at the end - it rests in barrels previously occupied by peated Whisky. Subtle, easy going and harmonious. With just a touch of smoke. A whole lot of Spey and a bit of Islay too, perhaps? To evolve and create, but stay true to the taste and spirit of a classical Glenlivet - that’s what George Smith would’ve wanted. Consider us smitten as well.
