The Dalmore 1263 King Alexander III Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Highlands, Scotland
The royal treatment.
Alexander Matheson, a trader who made his fortune in illegal opium imports from the Far East, founded the now prestigious Dalmore Distillery in 1839. It is located on the northern shores of the Firth of Cromarty, deep in the Scottish Highlands. The Dalmore changed owners many times throughout the years, with Clan Mackenzie being in control the longest.
Clan Mackenzie is also to thank for Dalmore's signature twelve-pronged stag included on all Dalmore bottles. The story of the stag goes back to 1263, when the head of clan heroically saved Scottish King Alexander the Third, with a single arrow to end the Stag's attempt. The king was so grateful that he granted the Mackenzies the right to use the now famous image of the stag on his family crest.
Master Blender Richard Paterson decided to honour the story afresh with the dram at hand. The Dalmore King Alexander III is a marriage of different ages and different casks. This dram was matured in six different casks:American white oak ex-Bourbon cask, Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks, Madeira barrels, Marsala casks, Port pipes and Cabernet Sauignon wine barriques.
This enchanting melange unfolds a dram unlike any other. Remarkably polished, rich and balanced thanks to the amazing cask wizardry. This dram bears a tremendous amount of personality. Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Take your time, appreciate and embrace it. The celebration of the legend that’s fit for a king.
