Whisky with a twist.
Canada is famous for many things, but (most of the time) Whisky is not one of them. That just ain’t fair – allow us to present our line of argument with the distillery at hand. The story of Tap 357 company started in Quebec a couple of years back, when a team of inspired Canucks decided to mix a couple of quintessentially Canadian flavors – rye and maple – to form Canadian Maple Rye Whisky. The Canadian law allows them the freedom to experiment, since a percentage of a given Canadian Whisky can be something other than Whisky. They’ve since extended their lineup with different Rye Whisky blends, each with their unique flavor profile.
They pride themselves on their small batch process and use of superior ingredients which makes their Whisky especially delicious, smooth and approachable. Their Spirits are produced at the oldest distillery in Western Canada. Every drop of Whisky is distilled four times before maturing in a combination of new, second and third-use Bourbon barrels. Once aged and blended with the finest ingredients, the Whisky is left to rest until its release.
One of their most decorated drams is definitely the Tap Rye Port Finish. The Whisky is aged for up to eight years in a combination of hand-selected barrels and Port casks, then finished with a small amount of Port wine before cold filtration. Finishing here means actual addition of said liquid into the mix, not just aging in ex-port barrels, you see. The innovative flavor profile full of sweet and spicy notes enriched by the dessert wine’s distinctive character means this is a great Whisky to enjoy as a sipper or in a sublime cocktail. This is a limited edition, which means once the remaining bottles are gone – that is it. This is definitely an interesting twist on what we know as Whisky. An awesome trip for all you Spirit explorers – adventure time up north!
