Tamdhu 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Speyside, Scotland
Tamdhu 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Speyside, Scotland
A wonderfully-aged Speysider aged for a full fifteen years in Oloroso Sheery casks.
The Tamdhu Distillery sits directly on the famous River Spey just downstream from Cragganmore and just upstream from Aberlour in the Knockando region. It was founded in 1896 by a group of private bottlers seeking their own consistent source of supply. Production started in 1897. The facility has been closed twice — from 1927 through 1947 due to Prohibition and then WWII and then in 2010 when Highland Distillers obviously lost their minds. They sold it to Ian MacLeod Distillers a year later and it was quickly reopened. They are famous for making Single Malt in the classic Speyside style and aging it in Sherry casks. They’re kind of The Macallan’s less-famous sister. The vast majority of production goes into major blends, but we can’t get enough of the tasty Single Malt releases.
We dare you to find a single word wrong in the following: “Tamdhu 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.” Here are the specs… Tamdhu’s signature Speyside Single Malt aged in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks for fifteen years. They bottle this gem at a perfect 46% ABV in its natural color and without chill-filtration.
As we were writing this our mouths watered. If yours didn’t upon reading it then there is something wrong and you undoubtedly need counseling of some sort.
Smartass Corner:
Tamdhu is one of just a few distilleries in Scotland that still malt their own barley. They use a device called a Saladin box to avoid hard turning the germinating grains.
