Alameda’s craft-not-for-craft's-sake Brandy.
Making Brandies isn't an American thing per-se, but you can find great exceptions everywhere. St. George Distillery of Alameda, California, has been producing spirits for the past 32 years. They’re among the first in the United States in the craft movement — that’s before craft was even a buzzword. They began as a one-man operation located in a bare-bones production facility all those years ago, and have grown to a diverse team of individuals passionate about artisan spirits.
The distillery is located in a 65,000-square-foot hangar with a spectacular tasting room, laboratory, and a lineup of the most beautiful pot stills in the industry. Better is better, they say.
St. George Raspberry is an unaged fruit Brandy made in St. George’s 250 liter copper pot stills. Their mission was to capture and present the Raspberry’s smell at the peak of ripeness. Making Eau de Vie is not an American thing, no, but this craft-not-for-craft's-sake distillery has been making them for over 30 years. And hell-a-good ones!
