Sombra Reposado Mezcal, Oaxaca, Mexico
If you're looking for an environmentally-friendly Mezcal that's the perfect balance of fruity and smoky flavors, this is it.
"Sombra" is the Spanish word for "shadow." It’s also an award-winning Mezcal that was founded by renowned Wine Sommelier Richard Betts. A leader in sustainable mezcal production based in Santiago Matatlán in Oaxaca, Mexico, Sombra focuses on environmentally-friendly production including solar-powered millstones and fiber recycling among other innovations. They use Espadin agave cultivated and harvested by local farmers. Proud members of the 1% for the Planet, Sombra donates at least 1% of sales to certified environmental charities every year. The Sombra Adobe Brick Project uses byproducts of Mezcal production to create adobe bricks for the community.
Sombra Mezcal Artesanal Reposado is the perfect balance of fruity and smoky flavors. Crafted from Espadin agave that’s grown at up to 8,000 feet, this expression is aged for up to six months in Bordeaux Wine barrels from the historic Château Léoville Poyferré in St Julien, France. Prepare for a lush and fruity nose with a hint of smoke, vanilla, orange peel and blackberries aromas that lead into a smooth and warming palate. Sipping it neat offers a unique tasting experience but you can also swap out Tequila for Mezcal and make yourself a Shadow Margarita with fresh lime juice and agave nectar, served on the rocks or coupe glass finished with a black salt rim and lime.
