The most heavily peated Whisky in the world.

Bruichladdich is an award-winning distillery from the world of malt-making business. Always ahead of time. Employing generations of distilling knowledge and the principle of minimal intervention. Built in 1881 on the wild Scottish island of Islay, their distillery still uses the original Victorian equipment to create a range of single malt Whiskies that are trickle distilled. Almost 150 years have passed since the distillery introduced their first product to the public, but the mad scientists at Bruichladdich are still breaking new ground when it comes to Whisky production. The man wearing the big shoes of his predecessors today, Bruichladdich Head Distiller, Adam Hannett continues that legacy of his fellow-head-distillers before him.

The distillery - once known for making only unpeated Whisky in a peat stronghold of Islay - decided to break, even smash (!) the tradition with their Octomore collection. It started out as a late night dram conversation round the fire –  “what if we distilled the most heavily peated Whisky in the world?” And distill they did. Yes sir. The rest is history.

This is the ultimate Octomore. Because even though the whole range is packing peat, Bruichladdich Octomore 8.3 is the peatiest of them all. The most heavily peated Octomore to date and what’s even more extraordinary – the most heavily peated Whisky in the World. The numbers back the claim – this edition produced a reading of 309.1 PPM (phenol parts per million), which is the highest ever recorded. Holy smoke! But the numbers, albeit impressive, don’t tell the whole story. This is a true thunderstorm of a dram. Made from barley grown in a single field on Islay, the peat monster was matured for five years in a combination of ex-Bourbon casks and ex-wine casks made from European oak and bottled at a whopping 61,2% ABV. Each and every drop of this exquisite dram is full of force and confidence and firing on all cylinders of flavor.

Can you take the peat?
