A peppery and floral Gin in the London Dry style from coast of New Jersey.
All Points West Distillery was founded by Gil Spaier. An architect and building renovator by training, he took up baking as a hobby. Baking is a function of yeast. That led to milling his own grain. Handling yeast and milling his own grains led to home-brewing. And home-brewing led him to distillation, founding his passion project in 2017. He had the idea to use traditional Irish pot-still methods on a barley and corn Spirit. In his second year his first Whiskey was awarded the Gold Medal AND "Whiskey of the Year" from the USA Spirit Rating Competition.
Like many upstarts, while your first batches of Spirit are resting comfortably in their barrels to mature, All Points West launched with Vodka and Gin to help pay the bills. But just "paying the bills" wasn’t enough… Gil wanted to do something special. Using the traditional London Dry technique, Cathouse Pink Pepper Gin builds upon their core Cathouse Gin. It starts with the same juniper and coriander foundation and eleven additional botanicals. But it adds two more hibiscus and pink peppercorns — to enhance the floral aromas and bring a bit of heat to the palate. This Gin is so good that it took the Double Gold Award at the John Barleycorn Awards, 2019.
Smartass Corner:
The name of the distillery originated as an announcement over the loudspeakers of the old Jersey City Railroad. The main terminal sat on the east coast facing the Statue of Liberty. Announcements would says things like, "Now departing on platform 3 for Claremont, Greenville, Cranford, and All Points West."
