Living in the hinterlands of northern Speyside, he decided to do the smart thing and capitalize on the newly passed Scottish Excise Act. You know, the one that legalized the distilling of Whisky in return for a license fee of £10. Starting his own little Macallan Distillery in 1824, he produced Whisky out of two humble pot stills. Well, from two little pot stills to one of the largest and most successful Single Malt Distillers in Scotland. One small step for Alexander Reid, and you know the rest that follows.
