Colonel E.H. Taylor 'Amaranth Grain of the Gods' Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, Kentucky, USA
Colonel E.H. Taylor 'Amaranth Grain of the Gods' Straight Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey, Kentucky, USA
A high quality Bourbon from Taylor with an interesting, historic, and minty twist.
Taylor Whiskies were originally made by Colonel Edmund Haynes (E. H.) Taylor just after the Civil War when he got out of the army and purchased the O.F.C Distillery. Today, the line of Taylor Bourbons are owned by the Sazerac Company and distilled in their famous Buffalo Trace facility. But make no mistake, this is one of their premium brands and they cut no corners. Now owned by Sazerac, Taylor Small Batch Whiskies are some of the best on planet earth, bar none.
Well… this is truly a first of its kind. But it is also a strictly limited edition experiment. Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Amaranth Bourbon Whiskey is just like a regular Bourbon Whiskey in the Taylor line-up from Buffalo Trace. It even uses the famous Mash Bill #1 with a slight modification. The rye grain has bee swapped out with amaranth — an exotic South American seed that has many of the same properties as wheat. And you will taste the differences — including a hint of mint influence. Like other Taylor Bourbons, this one is Bottled-In-Bond and delivered at 50% ABV, so there’s no lacking for power. And they swear that this is a one-off, so if you want to try it….
Smartass corner:
There is a lot of mis-information about amaranth. It’s not a grain at all. It is classified as a “pseudo-cereal” whose seeds grow on a large, flowering bush and is related to quinoa. Native to South and Central America, it was a staple food crop for the Aztec Empire for nearly 6,000 years.
